Have you ever wondered what your pets get up to when you go to work for the day? From the human creators of Despicable Me comes a tale about our loveable pets and the daily mischief that occurs while pet owners go out to work. Loveable terrier dog “Max” has the perfect life at home with his owner, sharing all moments of life since being discovered at a young age. Max was living a great life!
Until one day, Max’s owner returns home. She surprises Max and decides to take in a new stray dog named “Duke”. Max instantly dislikes Duke. The biggest strength of a film like this is not just the pretty colours or the random quick, witty humour, but in fact, it’s the film’s wild variety of characters/pets.
At some point in our lives, we have personally owned or cared for a pet. The film-related well to its audience as the character’s quirks are spot on. For example, Chloe the cat is a snobby character who pushes away her food bowl & has very little care for her surroundings. If you have ever owned a cat, I’m sure you can relate. (Because Cats Are Evil!)
The film plot is enjoyable, but the biggest challenge for me was not thinking about previous cartoons I had seen that have done the same story. Some of the characters felt familiar even from the world of Disney or Dreamworks (of course, if you’re a young child, the factor of this problem is simply 0). Secret Of Life Of Pets is highly recommended for “most” families as I know your children (and some adults) will enjoy it.
